SafetyNet Questions

What is SafetyNet

SafetyNet is a secured and scrambled network on which members will receive news and warning messages based upon their physical location. Its ideal for those who want to receive news/warning messages based upon where you physically are.

  • Can be used on your normal Mobile Phone by loading an app.
  • Is ideal for those who only want to be notified about “happenings” in their physical location.
  • You only want to receive news and do not want to participate in news collection.
  • Will run on a phone, no additional equipment is needed.
  • It monitors where you are and will give you warnings based upon your physical location.
  • The radios will work with the SafetyNet as well and provides users with a way to communicate with each other locally via RF or the secured NXDN network if they have family and friends on that network (KLW World News network).

  1. What is the difference between SafetyNet and NewNet. I thought that we become part of the NewsNet by default when we join the group. And the SafetyNet is an add-on if we wish to do private communication (radio-to-radio w/ or w/o use of repeaters in our area). Thank you.

    • Hi Horace

Marcello and myself will document both networks, it is a bit tricky to get hold of Lee so we can discuss them and document both properly…

  2. hi Dr.H I live in Canada so I don’t know if I can Use a radio from the USA in Canada. might be too many rules and regulations . However Im still very interested but I’ve let Lee know that Im not part of the bulk sales target .And told him that I will wait until he does all the testing that he needs to do before he can address my circumstances .Right now he needs to get this system up and running before he can deal with my requirements . the only reason I’m considering this purchase is for the freedom of press and to exchange info with those in the chat group no matter what the size will be . The censorship will increase to the point of total elimination of free minded people . So don’t count me out until he’s got it complete . I was ready to send money but things were still being designed by MR. FREQUENCY .

  3. Hello,
I like to get both safetynet and newsnet. monthly cost?
a radio with all the buttons-UHC I think is the best—I live 30 min from Phoenix
I will put safetynet on my husbands phone since its a new phone with bigger screen.
Does the safetynet use a lot of a phones data plan?
If they take down the mobile phones networks or jam them-will safetynet still work?
Depending on price, I would like to have a laptop and the radio for newsnet,
so not sure what other hardware I need for that
Not sure which charger to get, is the other antenna better?
a cheaper headset? Hand held talk? extra batteries?

    • Hi Anna,
Both SafetyNet and NewsNet (I believe, need to check) $5 each per device per month. I you are a patreon member on the $20 dollar plan or above you will get NewsNet for free, for the duration of your Patreon $20 dollar or above membership.
The radio order option has an option to select full or standard keyboard, regarding UHF/VHF that is best a discussion to have with Lee. He is committed to call everybody before the final group order to make sure the radio suits the needs.
SafetyNet is basically a message, bit like texting. It would not use much mobile data at all, having said that it can run up if you get thousands of messages. Thousand of messages a day will be very unlikely due to the nature of SafetyNet.
If the mobile phone network is taken down, then yes you would not be able to receive messages from SafetyNet via the mobile network. HOWEVER, if you are near a WiFi station that has internet connection you still can receive SafetyNet messages on the phone via the internet.

NewsNet, is ideally for radios (either portable or mobile) you do not need a laptop to use NewsNet. A laptop is handy if you want to monitor and log messages like a dispatcher. If you only want to send and receive messages and report on news then a radio is sufficient.
Regarding antenna’s, Lee will discuss you needs when he confirms the final order.
Extra batteries are always good to have, I would recommend at least one spare.

      Hope this answer helps.

  4. Hi Dr H. I’m not sure what we are supposed to be doing here. I just need a full key radio with safety net and news, possibly additional one to communicate with spouse and like minded here. What is RFQ? How do we get quote? Maybe I missed some of the streams. I’m better at reading details then listening to q and a, sorry🐵

      • Hi Diesel,
Two ways to connect to the internet, you can use your phone if there is phone service. You can connect your radio to your phone and then the phone connects to the internet. This will use data from your dataplan on your phone.

Or you can use OpenSPOT, also known as “The Dongle” this connects to your internet connection via WiFi, and your Radio connects to that. You only need to connect to the internet if you want to send and receive messages that are beyond the reach of your portable in the field.

Power outages. That is always tricky… depending on the footprint of the outage. I would recommend a small UPS to connect your comms equipment to, this has the benefit of “cleaning” your power from spikes and as such protecting your equipment and “keeping the dream alive” for a short period if the power grid goes down.

        Hope this helps
        Dr. H

    • Hi Diesel, don’t apologise mate.. I am the same… listenting either goes to fast or to slow LOL.
Let me try if I can answer you questions:
      – What are we supposed to do here? This page you see the minium requirements for joining SafetyNet, you can click on the image or button to order what you want.
      – What is RFQ? RFQ is Request For Quote, because Lee is collecting how many radios we need this to get the best price, we have not put a price in. The Quote allows you to register your interest and from there Lee will order the radios in bulk and will contact you to discuss the best options for you. You click the button, that brings you to the radio order, that is where you can select full or standard key radio, where you use it, how many you want etc.

The difference in NewsNet and SafetyNet.
NewsNet is best to be used with a Radio, as you already mentioned you want to have two, the NewsNet subscription is FREE if you are a patreon member of 20 dollars or more, you get ALL messages and you can contribute to the news and warnings.
SafetyNet can be used on the phone you do not need a radio for that, you get only those messages that are applicable to your location.

      Hope that helps
      Dr. H
