NewsNet questions

What is NewsNet?

NewsNet is a secured scrambled radio network on which member can communicate. NewsNet is designed to quickly receive and dispatch newsworthy information to its members.

  • The communication between two or more members is scrambled. (You also can do encrypted communications).
  • NewsNet is privately owned, using public and non-public available resources to transmit communications.
  • Each member is considered a citizen journalist, reporting or validating news as it becomes available.
  • You can use NewsNet to privately communicate with family and friends, parallel to group communications.
  • Radio reach is dependent on terrain and location, for radio to radio communication.
  • When connected to the internet, using the radio’s bluetooth, either by phone or “openSpot” you can use the radio to talk to anybody in the world that is a member of NewsNet.
  • Any channels you want extra need to be programmed into the radio, for example having a private channel for your family and friends need to be programmed.
  • The radios will work with the SafetyNet as well and provides users with a way to communicate with each other locally via RF or the secured NXDN network if they have family and friends on that network (KLW World News network)

What is NewsNet different than SafetyNet? You can compare NewsNet to the whole country weather channel. You get notified of every storm in the country. As with SafetyNet you only get your local area storm warning.

SafetyNet is also using phone instead of a radio.

*Free KLW World News membership is only valid for active patreon memberships, of $20 and up.

Basic NewsNet setup.

The most basic form, this gets you started.  You connect to the network using a handheld radio only.

NewsNet with an internet connection.

Same as above, including the openSPOT dongle. You can use the dongle or your phone (which you already have) to tether to the internet. This gives you the ability to talk to anyone on the network around the world.

  1. Went to the survey asking what state I live in. I could not find the State of Confusion, so I selected the State of Florida.
